An exact method of testing equality of several binomial proportions to a specified standard
نویسندگان
چکیده
The problem of testing equality of several binomial proportions to a speci)ed standard is considered. An exact method of testing based on the test statistic considered in Kulkarni and Shah (Statist. Probab. Lett. 25 (1995) 213) is proposed. Exact properties of the exact method and the approximate method due to Kulkarni and Shah are evaluated numerically for the two-sample case. Numerical studies show that the sizes of the approximate test due to Kulkarni and Shah often exceed the nominal level by considerable amount. For the one-sample case, numerical comparison shows that there is no clear cut winner between the new test and the usual exact test. A procedure for constructing simultaneous con)dence intervals is also given. The methods are illustrated using two examples. c © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Multivariate Tests Comparing Binomial Probabilities, with Application to Safety Studies for Drugs
In magazine advertisements for new drugs, it is common to see summary tables that compare the relative frequency of several side effects for the drug and for a placebo, based on results from placebo-controlled clinical trials. This paper summarizes ways to conduct a global test of equality of the population proportions for the drug and the vector of population proportions for the placebo. For m...
متن کاملVOLUME MINIMIZATION WITH DISPLACEMENT CONSTRAINTS IN TOPOLOGY OPTIMIZATION OF CONTINUUM STRUCTURES
In this paper, a displacement-constrained volume-minimizing topology optimization model is present for two-dimensional continuum problems. The new model is a generalization of the displacement-constrained volume-minimizing model developed by Yi and Sui [1] in which the displacement is constrained in the loading point. In the original model the displacement constraint was formulated as an equali...
متن کاملTesting equality of means and variances of several Weibull populations
The usual practice for testing homogeneity of several populations in terms of means and variances is first to test for the equality of variances and once this assumption is found to be tenable then to test the equality of means. Singh (1986) proposes a very interesting procedure based on two likelihood ratio statistics for testing homogeneity of several normal (μ, σ) populations. Singh uses a m...
متن کاملTests for One Proportion
Introduction The One-Sample Proportion Test is used to assess whether a population proportion (P1) is significantly different from a hypothesized value (P0). This is called the hypothesis of inequality. The hypotheses may be stated in terms of the proportions, their difference, their ratio, or their odds ratio, but all four hypotheses result in the same test statistics. For example, suppose tha...
متن کاملExact probabilities and confidence limits for binomial samples: applied to the difference between two proportions.
An exact probabilities method is proposed for computing the confidence limits of medical binomial parameters obtained based on the 2x2 contingency table. The developed algorithm was described and assessed for the difference between two binomial proportions (a bidimensional parameter). The behavior of the proposed method was analyzed and compared to four previously defined methods: Wald and Wils...
